Updated Data checked September 29–30, 2026Compiled by the Which Email Tool editorial teamSources ↓

Why small businesses look past Constant Contact

What its pricing page shows:

  • No free plan. There is a trial, then the Lite plan.
  • A steep second tier. Lite is $12 a month at 500 contacts and $30 at 1,000.
  • A send cap. Lite includes 10× contacts per month.

The prices here are month-to-month. Monthly billing; the pricing page opens on annual prices, which are lower.

Brevo is priced by emails sent, so it has no single price at a list size and is not ranked above. We compare its Standard plan. Starter costs less at the same volume but stops at 100,000 emails a month, limits automation to 2,000 contacts and keeps the Brevo logo unless you pay to remove it. The tier is set by emails sent and by stored contacts: the three smallest tiers hold 500, 1,500 and 2,500 contacts, and every tier from 20,000 emails up holds 500,000. Standard stops at 500,000 emails a month. Your tier is the first one that covers both the emails you send in a month and the size of your list.

At 500 contacts only Moosend is lower; SendPulse and MailerLite cost the same, and Mailchimp, AWeber and GetResponse cost more. From 1,000 contacts six tools cost less than Constant Contact at every size, and for each of them the dollar gap is wider at 10,000 than at 1,000. The lowest price moves: Moosend at 500, 1,000 and 5,000 contacts, GetResponse at 2,500, SendPulse at 10,000.

One price needs a note. GetResponse: USD prices as published in the data of getresponse.com/pricing/trial; the pricing page shows local currency to visitors outside the US. The smallest tier is 1,000 contacts.

Strong points

  • Large directory of third-party integrations
  • Pay-as-you-go email credits are available

Limits

  • Free plan is capped at 250 contacts and 500 emails a month

$18/moStandard
20,000 emails a month
$69/moStandard
Free plan
100,000 contacts, 300 emails/day

Brevo prices by emails sent, and each tier also carries a contact allowance, so it is outside the price table. A club, a shop or a nonprofit that mails its whole list once or twice a month can pay less this way: on its Standard plan the tier for 20,000 monthly emails is $69, against $120 for Constant Contact Lite at 10,000 contacts. SMS is sold as prepaid credits.

Strong points

  • Priced by emails sent, which suits lists that are mailed rarely
  • Prepaid email credits never expire
  • Transactional email and SMTP included on every plan

Limits

  • The 100,000-contact storage belongs to the free plan; the smallest paid tiers store far fewer contacts
  • Free plan sends only 300 emails a day
  • The bill rises with every extra send, so it cannot be compared with per-subscriber plans without knowing how often you mail
  • Telegram is not listed; WhatsApp sits on the Professional plan

Seven of the eight alternatives have a free plan; Moosend, like Constant Contact, has a trial. Kit’s is the only one with no email cap. SendPulse’s, GetResponse’s and AWeber’s cover 500 contacts, the size of Constant Contact’s smallest paid tier.

For nonprofits: what Constant Contact and Mailchimp state

Constant Contact’s pricing page offers nonprofits up to 30% off when they prepay. The discount needs prepayment, while the prices in the table above are month-to-month, so a nonprofit should compare its discounted Constant Contact price with each alternative’s own nonprofit terms. Among the alternatives, Mailchimp’s terms are the only ones checked so far. Mailchimp’s pricing page says nonprofits and charities can request a 15% discount. For the others, ask before moving the list.

Stay with Constant Contact if…

Your list is 500 contacts or fewer and you need what the free plans leave out (SendPulse’s keeps its branding in emails), you qualify for the nonprofit discount, or you use the SMS bundled in Premium. On paid plans at that size only Moosend is lower. Forms, templates and automations have to be rebuilt by hand in the new tool.

Which alternative to choose

  • GetResponseYour list is around 2,500, or you want unlimited emails and a free plan to start on.
  • MailerLiteYou send a plain newsletter, stay inside the send allowance and want to pay less for it.
  • AWeberYou want the same send allowance as Constant Contact at a lower price from 1,000 contacts.
  • KitYou can stay on a free plan with no email cap and do not need the paid features.
  • MailchimpAn integration you rely on exists only for Mailchimp.
  • BrevoYou mail the whole list only once or twice a month, or you need transactional email too.
